A Timeless "Alquería" Estate

At the edge of the village of Calderón, where the land rises and falls in gentle waves of vineyards, stands an estate frozen in time. Surrounded by three-meter-high walls, it guards a century of stories—of labor and laughter, of harvests and heartfelt toasts. More than just an agricultural estate, this "alquería" has been the silent witness to generations who shaped the land, coaxing from it the fruit that would become the soul of wine.

Calderón belongs to the county of Utiel-Requena, a high-altitude Mediterranean plateau 70 kilometers inland from the city of Valencia. Here, where the land meets the sky, vines stretch towards the horizon, nurtured by the sun-drenched days and cool nights that shape the character of its wines. The estate itself is set against the backdrop of the "Sierra del Negrete", while on the banks of the "Río Magro", the water has long sustained both the land and the people who have called this place home.

Within its walls, three buildings preserve the region’s winemaking heritage. The main house, a place of quiet strength, where families once gathered after long days among the vines. The century-old winery, where 11 deep "trullos"—age-worn winemaking pits—have absorbed the scent of fermenting grapes and the echoes of past vintages. And the ranch, a reminder of a time when life moved with the rhythm of the seasons, where horses and carts once played their role in the cycle of winemaking.

Today, the estate stands at the threshold of a new chapter. Viña Memorias, with its commitment to high-quality, limited-production wines, embraces this legacy. The vines surrounding the estate continue to tell their story through every bottle—of the land, of the hands that shaped it, of the time-honored craft passed down through generations.
